Nicaragua joined SWA in 2018. Nicaragua has contemplated within the Axes of their National Program of Human Development (2018-2021) in water and sanitation: (1) to advance in the universal and equitable provision to the potable water and sanitation, (2) to improve the quality of the water of human consumption, by means of the reduction of the contamination, particularly the one that originates by discharge of materials and dangerous chemical products and residual waters and (3) to promote the shared responsibility in the construction, use and sustainability of the systems of potable water and sanitation. Among their goals, they estimate to reach 95% drinking water coverage and 75-80% sanitary sewerage coverage by 2023.
