Guinea joined SWA in 2017. The country is implementing a National Strategy for the Development of the Public Water Service in Rural and Semi-Rural Areas (PNAEPA) to strengthen the sector. During the SWA High-level Meeting in 2019, Guinea formulated its clear and precise commitments to achieve SDG 6 - establish an operational inter-sectoral coordination mechanism for the sector, develop and implement a support program for communes for the management of service works, and develop and implement a national plan for the end of open defecation
Commitments by the government
Consolidate the Water, Hygiene and Sanitation Intersectoral Coordination Mechanism to promote the implementation of risk-based, gender-based and climate-related service delivery.
Develop and implement a support programme for municipalities to manage water and sanitation services.
Mobilize development partners and civil society actors to agree on the development of National Adaptation Plan for the WASH sector, and to formulate national climate adaptation plan.
Put in place a programme to monitor and assess the impacts of climate risks on WASH facilities and services.
Develop a capacity-building programme to support the assessment and implementation of climate-resilient WASH solutions.
By 2020, put in place an inter-sectoral operational coordination mechanism in the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene sector
By 2025, develop and implement a national plan to eliminate open defecation.
Commitments by partners
Establish a national civil society accountability platform to implement and monitor SDG 6 initiatives by end 2019.
