El Salvador joined SWA in 2021. The National Drinking Water and Sanitation Plan – PLANAPS (2018 – 2039) seeks to ensure the Salvadoran population full and permanent access to drinking water and sanitation services. PLANAPS seeks to fulfill two international commitments: the recognition of the Human Right to Water and Sanitation (United Nations resolution 62/292) and achieving Goal 6 of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which seeks to ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all. Under PLANAPS, the government has also proposed the formation of the National Drinking Water and Sanitation Council (CONAPS), to be attached to the Technical and Planning Secretariat, whose work will be essential for the implementation of the National Drinking Water and Sanitation Policy in the country.
