Egypt joined SWA in 2010. Egypt is on the SWA Steering Committee representing government partners in the Middle East and North Africa Region. It is represented by the Ministries of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities and Water Resources and Irrigation. Government reports note there is 98% coverage of safely managed drinking water sources in Egypt. It's goal is to reach 100% coverage for safely managed drinking water and 100% and 60% safely managed sanitation for urban and rural areas respectively by 2022.
