Costa Rica joined SWA in 2016. Costa Rica plans to reach the SDGs through a consolidated institutional structure for planning and actions, as well as a high degree of participation of the different interest groups. One example of this commitment is the development of the National Drinking Water Policy Potable (PNAP), and the National Wastewater Sanitation Policy (PNSAR) that is accompanied by a Plan of Investments in Sanitation.
Commitments by the government
Create a National Water Forum as a national and intersectoral platform for facilitating dialogue and monitoring of public policies on water resources. This will be convened at least once per year by the Ministry for Energy and the Environment.
Create a regional Water Forum as a means for interregional and intersectoral dialogue in each of the 5 water units by end 2019. This forum will be convened at least once per year by the Ministry for Energy and the Environment.
Officially create, through an executive decree, a platform to facilitate dialogue and exchange, and to promote the integrated management of water resources, with the participation of all stakeholders.
