Angola joined the SWA in 2010. Angola has a formal national coordination mechanism, led by the government, which exists for planning and reviewing the sector. The current National Development Plan (PDN) comprises a Water and Sanitation Policy, defining priorities and providing three programs for the sector: a) Water Supply Expansion Program in Urban Areas, Municipalities and Rural Areas; b) Water Sector Development and Consolidation Program; c) Basic Sanitation Improvement Program. With ambitious goals of covering water supply in both urban (85%) and rural areas (76%), and water supply systems in operation (88%), Angola already has several programmes underway to improve the WASH sector, with the main programmes in the sector being the Water for All Programme, the Urban Water and Sanitation Systems Rehabilitation Programme, and the Total Sanitation Programme led by Communities and Schools (STLCE).
